Update on remedies agreed following Ofgem investigation

In December 2015, we agreed certain actions with the gas and electricity markets regulator, Ofgem, following their investigation into BES. Please refer to the below update on our progress with these agreed actions.

Following Ofgem’s investigation, BES has made a number of attempts to contact the affected customers about the compensation due to them, and an update on our progress is set out below:

– Compensation has now been paid to relevant customers who are still on supply with BES.

– Efforts to pay compensation to relevant customers who are no longer with BES continue.

– Over 75% of the total compensation sums due have been paid.

– Any remaining amount which cannot be returned directly to the customers concerned, despite our best efforts, will be paid to the Money Advice Trust to fund their Business Debtline service.

If you did not receive any communication from BES and you think that you are due compensation, you should contact us by email at redress@besutilities.co.uk, or by phone on 0844 5678 427.

Compensation payments due to current customers have been applied as a credit to their relevant gas and/or electricity account. Former customers will be asked to indicate if they prefer a refund by bank transfer (and asked for details) or a cheque.
